View Park Baldwin Hills and other Crenshaw District Neighborhoods
View Park
Since the early 1920s, View Park, CA has been one of the most prominent neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Today, the area ranks among the wealthiest African American communities in the country and continues to grow with every generation.
Baldwin Hills
Home to the largest middle and upper middle-class African American community in Los Angeles, this hillside neighborhood ties together one of the most important strongholds of black culture in town, forming the residential nexus of the Crenshaw area. Baldwin Hills has gone through many permutations over the decades, and has been the site of some of the most significant events in the city's recent history, having since the 1930s hosted an Olympics, a who's who of black Hollywood and one of the city's most amazing natural disasters.
Windsor Hills
View Park-Windsor Hills is one of the wealthiest primarily African-American areas in the United States. The two neighborhoods are part of a band of neighborhoods, from Culver City's Fox Hills district on the west to the Los Angeles neighborhood of Leimert Park on the east, that compose the single largest and one of the wealthiest geographically contiguous high middle- and upper-class black communities in the western United States. This corridor also includes Baldwin Hills and Ladera Heights neighborhoods.
Ladera Heights
Ladera Heights is a community on the west side of Los Angeles centered near Slauson Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard. The part of Ladera Heights west of La Cienega Blvd is bounded on the west by Canterbury, on the south by Centinela, and it extends north of Slauson as far as Shenandoah and the streets reachable from Shenandoah.
Leimert Park
Once the home of Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald, Leimert Park was dubbed the "Black Greenwich Village" by filmmaker John Singleton. The World Stage and Kaos Network showcase jazz, hip-hop and poetry slams. During the monthly Leimert Art Walk, shop for art, fashion and jewelry. Visit the beloved Eso Won bookstore, which frequently hosts book signings. Leimert Park is brimming with eateries serving BBQ, spicy Jamaican cuisine and soul food that's sure to tantalize.
